PSR-Pittsburgh
is the Western Pennsylvania chapter of Physicians for Social
Responsibility (PSR),
a 30,000-member national organization of physicians, other
health professionals, and supporters concerned primarily
about the health consequences of nuclear weapon, war and
environmental damage. PSR is the United States affiliate
of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear
War (IPPNW),
recipient of the 1985 Nobel Prize for Peace. Since inception,
PSR has focused on the need to protect humanity from the
unprecedented threats to survival that are posed by the
development, deployment, and potential use of nuclear weapons.
Additionally, PSR is committed to the achievement of a sustainable
environment, and to the reduction of violence and its causes.
Toward these ends, PSR uses the traditional medical tools
of research, education, advocacy and action. PSR-Pittsburgh
has 300 regular members and a student chapter.
